WestCrest Liberia Extends Helping Hand to Totota Disaster Victims

Representative Moima Briggs-Mensah, left, gracefully receives the symbolic US$1,000 check from Amara Kamara, right, Director, and Senior In-Country Advisor of WestCrest Liberia.

.... “In the face of tragedy, it is our collective responsibility to come together and offer support to those who have been affected. We believe that even the smallest act of kindness can make a difference,” Kamara said.

WestCrest Liberia Ltd, a subsidiary of Singapore-based West26 PTE Ltd, is announcing the donation of US$1,000 to aid the recovery of victims of the horrific fuel tanker crash in Totota, Bong, which has left the nation in tears.

The tanker, which crashed on December 26, 2023, had overturned along a road in the town, about 130km (80 miles) from the capital, Monrovia, and burst into flames about two hours later, resulting in the death of at least 52 people as a result of people trying to scoop fuel from the tanker. About 89 others, according to the government, are being treated for severe burns, with most people in very “critical conditions.”

Amara Kamara, Director, and Senior In-Country Advisor of WestCrest Liberia, said that his company is sorry for the loss and that the donation was just a small step towards helping the Totota community rebuild and recover.

“In the face of tragedy, it is our collective responsibility to come together and offer support to those who have been affected. We believe that even the smallest act of kindness can make a difference,” Kamara said. “Our hearts go out to the families affected by this tragedy. We cannot imagine the pain and loss they are experiencing, but we hope this contribution will help alleviate some of the burden during this difficult time.”

The US$1,000 was provided in a check to Rep. Moima Briggs-Mensah, fulfilling WestCrest Liberia's corporate social responsibility and community support funds. The company's core business is mineral exploration and development, with a strong presence in Liberia, committed to sustainable mining practices and community development.

The Totota donation, according to Rep. Briggs-Mensah, is an act of kindness that “gives the tanker victims much-needed hope” while demonstrating the company's “unwavering commitment” to the Liberian people.

"We are sincerely thankful to WestCrest Liberia Ltd for their generosity during this difficult time. The financial assistance will go a long way in helping the affected families recover and rebuild their lives. This support reflects the true spirit of unity and solidarity, and we appreciate WestCrest Liberia's commitment to making a positive impact in the communities they serve."
