The United States Warship, USS Hershel “Woody” Williams has conducted a regularly scheduled port visit as a guest of the Armed Forces of Liberia to strengthen the enduring partnership between the United States and Liberia.

While in Liberia, the U.S. Marine Corps from the USS Williams conducted an exchange with the Armed Forces of Liberia and hosted a workshop titled: Women, Peace, and Security for the AFL.

"The U.S. prioritizes assisting Liberia’s armed forces to become more professional, more effective, and to protect the rights of all. The strong U.S. military relationship with the Armed Forces of Liberia has persisted for more than a century and will continue to well into the future" said the US Embassy.

According to the US Embassy near Monrovia, “These types of visits demonstrate our commitment to regional stability and maritime security in this vital region of the world.

The U.S. Navy routinely works with allies and like-minded partners such as the African coastal countries to enhance maritime security in Africa’s coastal waters.”

The strong U.S. military relationship with the Armed Forces of Liberia has persisted for more than a century and will continue to well into the future.

The USS Williams, currently led by commanding officer Captain Chad Graham, is an expeditionary mobile base currently in service with the Sixth Fleet of the United States Navy.

The USS Williams is named in honor of Hershel W. “Woody” Williams, who was awarded the Medal of Honor in the Battle of Iwo Jima during World War II.
