Zubah Vessilee has been named the new captain of third division club Muscat FC, replacing former captain Samuel Karmo.
Former captain Karmo left the club in February this year to join first division outfit Nimba Football Club. Vessilee was handed the armband by newly-appointed coach Mouctarr Fofana and guided the team in their recent 3-0 triumph over Barrack Young Controllers at the Blue Field.
“I feel great, it’s such a huge honor to captain such a great club,” Vessilee told this newspaper. He added, “I have held the armband of several teams, but didn’t see myself as a future captain of this team.
“I will try my best to lead my teammates on and off the pitch. It’s a huge task to serve as a captain and also play my role as an ordinary team player on and off the pitch, so I now have to adjust myself to play multiple roles in the team,” he said.
Vessilee has, meanwhile, thanked former skipper Karmon for his contributions to the club during his spell as the captain and wished him success at his new club.
Since joining the club in 2009, the young midfielder has been involved and was part of former coach Obedia Gbeh’s squad that clinched the 2nd Runners-up trophy in the 2012–13 Liberia Football Association 3rd division playoffs that promoted them to the 2nd division. Unfortunately, they were relegated to the 3rd division after they suffered a six-point deduction for fielding an illegal player.
Vessilee also featured for Margibi County in the 2016/2017 National County Sports Meet and helped the county finish 3rd in the competition.
He will be hoping to reach his first final as captain when he leads the Paynesville-based club in today’s semi-finals match against FC Bea Mountain in the Blue Cup at the Blue Field.
