Soccer loving Buchanan residents will be treated to an afternoon of Independence Day soccer encounter between the Terminators FC of APM Terminals and their opponents from the Liberia Agricultural Company, LAC on July 26.
According to APM Terminals’ Jonathan Armah Baxter, the friendly soccer match is, besides celebrating Liberia’s Independence Day, will enable some of APM Terminals’ staff to know the port city of Buchanan.
“It is part of making some of workers and staffs see what is also happening in other parts of Liberia,” Baxter said.
He said the Buchanan trip will be the second outing for Terminators FC. The first was a 1-1 draw game against Bomi County before the Ebola outbreak in Tubmanburg.
Players preparing for the trip include the following:
Lawrence Washington,(goalkeeper) Rufus Doe, Daouda Kamara, Oliver Kun, Karl Gnonlofin, Dakana Pederson, Roland Coleman, Isaac Lloyd and Archie Amara.
The rest are Sullivan Doeblah, John Mayson, Kollie Jomah, Leon Lard, Alfred Kamara, and Nicholas Sieh.
Coach George Paintsil is managing the team for the trip, with Baxter as usual playing his role as the man behind the scene, motivating and inspiring the players to do their best by using sports to improve on their health.
Though there is not much information coming from Buchanan on the preparedness of LAC players for the match, the fact that Coach Joseph Sayon (Kofi Bruce of Might Barrolle and Lone Star fame) is managing the team indicates that competition will be assured.
“I know Kofi’s ability to make things happen on the field,” Baxter said, “and so my boys are going there to make things uncomfortable for him.”
