As the Liberia Football Association (LFA) strives to make women’s football the number one priority sport for women and girls in Liberia, the participation of women in various aspects of the game continues to increase.
Unlike the past, the number of female referees in the Liberia Football Referees Association (LIFRA) has grown.
Amidst the growing number of women’s participation in football, Daily Observer Sports Desk brings you a spotlight on one of the outstanding female referees in Liberian football.
Name: Love Wehyee
Bottom line: Considered one of Liberia’s most outstanding female referees and has taken charge of some high-profile matches, including the second-leg between Liberia and Morocco U-20 Women’s National teams’ international friendlies and the Third Place Playoff between Margibi and Grand Kru in the 2020/2021 National County Sports Meet.
She’s noted for being confident and is not afraid to show yellow or red cards when there is a need.
Referee Wehyee started her referring career in Tappita, Nimba County at age 17.
She was recruited by the Liberia Football Referees Association (LIFRA) in 2019 and completed her first course that same year.
Based on her outstanding performances since she was recruited, Ref. Wehyee was one five female referees that were promoted as a Class “A” referees in January of 2021.
She’s currently a Sophomore student reading Forestry and Agriculture at the University of Liberia.
