A brace from skipper Tony Shilley and Prince Sannah in the midweek was vital to Cece United collecting a win in its first group match of the ongoing Montserrado County community playoffs at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium. The Saye Town ambassadors took the lead in the 4th minute through their captain – Shilley, before completing his brace in the 60th minute.
Zahnty FC pulled one back in the 71st minute, but United finally took the day after midfielder Prince Sannah scored in the 80th minute.
Cece United got the early minute goal after skipper Shilley used his speed to easily roll the ball into the back of the net. Debah Dennis had a one-on-one opportunity to level the scores in the 17th minute from a counterattack, but goalkeeper Alvin Sehkehpoh, who has just returned from a loan, was swift to prevent his opponent from getting the equalizer.
The lone goal kept the Academy club in the lead in the first half.
Zahnty entered the second half with an attacking style of play in search for a goal as their opponents became a little bit complacent. Unfortunately, Zahnty forgot their defensive tactics that led to captain Shilley netting his second after skillfully dribbling goalkeeper T-Boy Quipure.
With less than 30 minutes left to play, the two goals seemed not to be a setback for Zahnty as they kept mounting pressure.
Zahnty’s forward Godpower Roberts became a threat to the Cece United defense through his steady attacks from the midfield. His attacks finally got a consolation for his team after providing an assist to teammate Mark Flomo, who beat goalkeeper Sehkehpoh with a perfect placement into the lower left corner of the goalpost.
The goal increased the pressure on Cece United and led to the team making several changes to increase its attacking force. The changes yielded a fruitful result after midfielder Sannah scored the final goal to secure the 3-1 victory for the academy club.
