Coach Kobina Amissah of Liberia’s CAF Confederation Cup campaigners, Red Lions, has appealed to Liberians soccer fans to provide all necessary support to the team in their preparation against Algerian club C. S. Constatntinios on Friday, February 28, at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium.
Red Lions, who qualified for the 1/16th round due to the failure of its Guinea Bissau candidate to come for the preliminary round, said, “We are doing all that is necessary to make certain that Red Lions adequately represent Liberia.”
He said while the team has been struggling in the local league, due to the number of players that are newly acquired and as a result, making effort to play together, the players have realized the enormity of the challenge and the collaboration needed to make things happen.
“They are playing better and with time they will make the required expectation,” Coach Amissah said. “We need your support from the Liberian people.”
Red Lions last Wednesday drew 0-0 against Watanga, in a match that they needed to stay out of the relegation zone, but dominated from start to finish and even wasted a penalty, and a ball that hit the goalpost and rebounded into play.
He said despite the difficulties, the team is playing well, and Liberians’ motivation is essential because the management is working out to make the players more comfortable to face their challenges they know they must conquer.
