Liberia has rejected an invitation from the Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football (FRMF) to attend the opening of the 2014 FIFA Club World Cup in Morocco next month.
LFA president Musa Bility told the Daily Observer yesterday that the invitation included tickets, but has already been communicated to the Moroccan FC by Secretary General Alphonso Armah.
Bility said the decision by the LFA Executive Committee was made in solidarity with CAF, who stripped Morocco of the right to host the 2015 Orange Africa Cup of Nations Finals after FRMF insisted the tournament be postponed over fears the Ebola.
“We have decided that the invitation from the Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football is unacceptable,” Bility said.
The Club World Cup is set to feature European Champions Real Madrid, African champions Entente Setif, as well as other continental champions.
The opening match, which is a quarter-final, is scheduled for 10 December, and the final is on 20 December.
Liberia’s rejection put the country with member nations of the Council of Southern African Football Associations (COSAFA).
