The Women Football Association in Liberia (WOFAL) has unanimously pledged its support to the re-election of Vice President for Administration (VPA) Musa Shannon and Cassell A. Kouh for Vice President for Operation (VPO) in the LFA March 22 elections.
WOFAL comprises of the seven registered teams in the Liberia Football Association women league, with voting rights.
The President of WOFAL, Madam Ciata Bishop, who is also the co-chairman of the Women Football Committee alongside with its chairman, Executive Committee member Wallace Weiah.
Madam Bishop said female team owners met, consulted and decided that the advancement of women football depends on good leadership therefore people who have good vision should be supported.
“Based on our consensus we’ve concluded to implore and support Musa Shannon’s candidacy for the Vice President for Administration,” Madam Bishop said.
She added: “We have also decided to support Mr. Cassell Kouh. We have interacted with him and he is someone who could help us to develop women football.”
Women Football Committee chairman EC Wallace Weiah, who is also the President of Earth Angels FC, said their support to the duo is due to their stand to develop women football.
The former secretary and president of WOFAL Michael Gilayeneh, who is the president of Blanco FC congratulated WOFAL for drawing their line in the elections.
Mr. Gilyeneh, who is also the current deputy secretary general for administration at the LFA, expressed confident of a massive support from the duo at the elections.
In response, Mr. Shannon said women football has been the foundation for his success since 2010 and hoped he would be ere-elected with their support.
He described women football as the unpolished diamond and pledged his commitment upon his reelection to polish it.
For his part, Mr. Kouh thanked the female teams for their support and said upon his election he will ensure that they participate in international friendly matches and competitions.
EC members D. Sheba Brown and Ansu Dorleh added their support and extolled female teams for their timely support.
Ms. Rochell Woodson, chairperson for Musa Bility elections campaign said the endorsement by female clubs is the first step in her campaign.
The FIFA women committee member said her next step will include the support from the 1st and 2nd division teams, including the sub-associations and affiliate members.
Official of the seven female teams that attended the meeting were: Lamin Konuwah (World Girls); Prince Kamara (Island Queens); Robertson Warner (Determine Girls); Anthony Roberts (Earth Angels); Cyrus Yeanay (Blanco FC); Dixon M. Kpannah (Senior Pro) and Lamin S. Kiadii (Pro Sisters).
According to the LFA electoral code there will be 54 voting members, which are as follows: 1st division, 12 clubs; 2nd division, 14 clubs; sub associations, 15 members, female clubs, 7 and affiliate members, 7.
