The ministries of Youth & Sports and Internal Affairs have renewed insurance coverage with the Saar-Liberia Insurance Company for more than 1,200 players participating in the 2013/2014 County Meet.
According to the policy, only players, who participate in the five disciplines (football, kickball, athletics, volleyball and basketball) are covered.
The two-month insurance coverage began Friday, the 1st of November and will end on Tuesday, December 31, 2013.
The technical and development officer at the Ministry of Youth & Sports, Kelvin Sebwe, made the announcement recently during a one-day workshop for referees, statisticians, medics, monitors and Superintendents.
Sebwe warned sports coordinators from the various counties against abusing the coverage.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Saar Insurance Liberia, Bernard Nteguia Fodjo described the policy as a ‘Group Life Accident and Medical Insurance' policy.
He said during the 2012/2013 National County Meet, about 35 players were treated.
Mr. Fodjo said medical slips have been dispatched with the listing of health centers to be used by players who may sustain injuries in Paynesville, Greenville, Voinjama, Buchanan and Gbarnga.
According to the policy, accidental death of a player is L$100,000, while natural death is L$50,000.
Mr. Fodjo said benefits for permanent disability (such as amputation of both legs and hands, etc) is also L$100,000, while L$50,000, to at least L$10,000 respectively is paid based on a percentage on a human body in case of accident.
He said, “Saar Insurance is an international insurance company with headquarters in Cameroon. We are in Ivory Coast, Benin, Senegal, Equatorial Guinea, Chile, Sao Tome and other countries.”
Superintendents Florence F. Brandy (Montserrado) and Etweda A. Cooper, (Grand Bassa) in separate remarks extolled the organizers of the National County Meet for the policy.
Meanwhile, this year’s County Meet is expected to kick-off on Saturday, December 14, 2013, with an official opening program in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County.
