A program marking the host country for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Qatar’s eighth National Sports Day celebration was last Tuesday held on the campus of the A.M. Fofana High School in Sinkor.
The Embassy of Qatar accredited near Monrovia celebrated the day with a football match between the embassy football squad and the A. M. Fofana High School football squad on the campus of the school at the Fish Market community on Airfield, Sinkor.
A.M. Fofana won the match 3-2. The Ambassador of Qatar Fahad Al-Merikhi scored Qatar’s first goal in the 15th minute from the penalty spot after a defender of A. M. Fofana High School was booked for a foul while Enaam hit the second goal in the 26th minute through placement.
Morris Kaba opened the score for A. M. Fofana in the 13th minute and added the third goal in the 30th minute while Ahamed Sabab scored the second goal in the 10 minutes later.
Qatar National Sports Day was first celebrated on the second Tuesday of February 2011 and has become an annual celebration.
Ambassador Merikhi described his country’s eighth National Sports Day celebration as timely because it came just a few days after his country’s national football team was crowned champions for the Ancient Cup competition.
Ambassador Merikhi said: “I am very delighted that we have gathered here today on this beautiful school campus for the celebration of my beloved country, Qatar’s National Sports Day and also for the history championship we just won in the Ancient Cup competition.”
Ambassador Merikhi presented sports equipment and cartons of juice to officials of A. M. Fofana to be distributed among the students.
The Assistant Proprietor of A. M. Fofana High School Mr. Ayouba Gbronkay Fofana paid tribute to Ambassador Merikhi for the sporting equipment and cartons of juice for the students and also for hosting his country’s eighth National Sports Day celebration on his school’s campus. He called on other Islamic countries’ embassies near Monrovia to follow the good example of the Qatar embassy.
