Paynesville Young Stars recorded their first win of the season, defeating Young Pro FC on Saturday, Sept. 22, at the 72nd Sports Pitch in the ongoing Paynesville sub-committee community league.
The match, which was a fighting chance for PYS to earn their first league win, finally happened after PYS displayed a brilliant performance in the second half of the match to collect their first three points of the season.
Young Pro FC took an early lead in the 15th minute, through Wess Daniel’s perfect finish.
The match itself began in a tense atmosphere as both teams made several attempts to change the scoreline, but the scores remained 1-0 in favor of Young Pro FC to end the first half.
The second half commenced with PYS taking over the control with ball coordination and flowing passes with the objective of securing the equalizer, but they could not succeed as Young Pro FC’s defense would not break under their opponents’ intense pressure.
It was not until the 58th minute that PYS made a breakthrough when striker Denu D. Slewion finally found the equalizer. He received an assist from skillful Carlor R. Carlor.
A few minutes later, Young Pro FC made an attempt and pinned their opponents in their half of the field but they could not make use of the chances that came their way.
Let off the hook, PYS increased their attacks and in the 78th minute, Carlor R. Carlor scored what was to be the winning goal of the match. Their opponents’ fans were shocked!
Speaking in a post-match interview PYS CEO Abel G. Thomas applauded his players for the win.
He said the team has improved and deserved the win against a tough team like Young Pro FC.
He also said the most important part is the way the team played, and how they controlled the game and stayed organized.
The team currently sits at the top of Group D with four points and they are expected to play Larbeindee FC on Saturday, September 29.
