The preliminary rounds of the ongoing National County Sports Meet yesterday continued across the country with several exciting and boring results from emerging from the second round of matches.
In Gbanga, Bong Couty where Group I matches are being played, the Mountaineers of Nimba County advanced to the next stage of the competition after thrashing the ‘Wologize Boys’ of Lofa Couty 3-0 in the day’s first encounter. Nimba will take on Bong in their final match. In Group I second match, Bong, and Grand Gedeh failed to score a goal as both teams settled to a draw. The Nimbians are seated top of the group with six points, followed by Bong County with four points. Meanwhile, in kickball, Lofa girls also suffered a 3-4 defeat against Nimba, while Bong defeated Grand Gedeh 8-1 home runs.
Elsewhere in Group II, defending champions Montserrado County came from a goal down to defeat River Cess 2-1; tallying their points to four out of two games, while Grand Bassa and Margibi settled to a goalless draw. Montserrado and Grand Bassa are now leveled at the top with four points and a goal apiece. In their final fixtures, Montserrado will take on Grand Bassa, while River Cess will take on Margibi.
In Kickball, Montserrado thrashed Rivercess 9-0 home runs. Bassa vs Margibi match will continue today after both sides played to a 0-0 home run in ten innings.
In Group III that contains Grand Cape Mount, Bomi and Gbapolu counties, Bomi collected their first three points following a 2-0 win against Cape Mount and will take on Gbapolu in their second match. Cape Mount and Bomi are now leveled on three points, while Gbapolu remain at the bottom.
Moving on to Group IV, Grand Kru County remain top of the group with following their 1-1 draw against Maryland county that are now seated in the third position with two points out of two matches. Sinoe County recovered from their defeat against Grand Kru and yesterday secured a 2-1 win against River Gee to move second in the group with three points. in the group’s final clashes, leaders Grand Kru will battle against River Gee, while Sinoe will take Maryland County.
In the group’s kickball matches, Maryland edged out Grand Kru 4 to1 home runs, while Sinoe narrowly defeated River Gee 5-4 home runs.
