There are 47 students currently at the Monrovia Football Academy, where they are benefiting from academic and football training, and lessons in life skills.
With the number of students, the academy’s administration has disclosed that it will begin a recruitment process on Sunday June 25 at the Blue Field in the PHP Community.
According to MFA Director Will Smith, the academy will recruit 23 male and female players from ages 7-13 to join the 47 current players.
“We will also be posting flyers on social media sites and on walls and fences in and around Monrovia to encourage parents to send their kids to the MFA. We are targeting 23 players to get the total of 70,” he said.
Most of the new students, according to Director Smith, will form part of the third grade class during the next academic year.
Recruited students need to meet up with five requirements in order to become eligible players for the academy, including achieving 50% or higher on the entrance exam, the ability and potential to play football, among others.
“What we are searching for are children with potential and the determination and enthusiasm to succeed as footballers,” Director Smith said.
He added that successful applicants will participate in a one-week training camp in August, a normal week in classes, football training, and life skills, that will give MFA a chance to be evaluated before the final selection is made.
