-To Participate in West Africa Region II, ECOWAS Championships
The 12-man Lone Star Athletic team has arrived in Conakry, Guinea. The delegation, comprising eleven (11) athletes and head coach Samuel Cooper, departed the country on Sunday, May 7, by road to participate in the West Africa Region II Senior Championships and the ECOWAS Junior tournament, in Conakry, Guinea from May 12 to 14.
The athletes were selected by the Liberia Athletic Federation (LAF) following their qualification in the April 26 time trials at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex.
They are between the ages 14 and 22, and would participate in five (5) events: 1500m male/female, 400m male/female, 200m male/female, 100m male/female and shot put male/female.
The athletes include Andrew S. Kpehe, Lucy Massaquoi, Philip G. Lakemont, Abraham Harris, Sunnyboy Barcon and Nancy Saah. Others include Richard Marengo, Galama Marwolo, Nancy Saah, Anis Faraj, Kadmiel Enders and Emmanuel Kartus.
The Secretary General of the LAF, Frederick Krah, said: “This marks our third participation in regional competitions in 2017 without national government’s support.
“We are grateful to our leadership, friends, committed and disciplined athletes, well-wishers, and others for their support. Please remember our athletes and coaches in your prayers as they embark on national duty.”
