Defending league champions LISCR FC yesterday recovered from their two successive league defeats to defeat NPA Anchors 2-1 at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium in Monrovia.
Yesterday’s fixtures were matched day 8 of the ongoing 2018 National League. LISCR’s coach Tapha Manneh made five changes in his previous team that suffered a 3-2 defeat against Nimba United on Sunday, September 23, at the ATS.
Ashely Williams replaced goalkeeper Tommy Songo, with defender Asaimuh Dann returning to the team after a long period of inexplicable absence. Striker Sam Kollie, who made his league debut for the team on Sunday after he was introduced in the second half against Nimba United, made his first start of the season yesterday.
Dubbed, the ‘Shipping Boys’, LISCR’s dominance from the start of the match earned them a positive result after striker Varney Sando fired home the opener in the 20th minute to send the champions for the break.
NPA came back more forceful in the second half and leveled the scores in the 64th minute through striker Myers Garlic’s deflected strike that gave goalkeeper Ashely Williams no chance.
However, coach Tapha Manneh and his boys could not afford to concede another defeat as they executed every tactic to collect the three points. Fortunately, striker Sam Kollie was the right man to give the champions the winning goal in the 79th minute.
Despite collecting the three points, LISCR remain at the third spot in Group B with 11 points out of seven games.
Also in Group B, Nimba United, six games unbeaten streak came to an end yesterday at the North Star Stadium in Mount Barclay after they suffered a 1-0 against group leaders LPRC Oilers.
Striker Dominic Jlateh was the lone goal scorer for the Oilers as they continued their brilliant performance as league contenders.
LPRC Oilers are now top of the group with 13 points (one point ahead of Nimba United).
