Liberian Athletes’ Reunion Planned for Philadelphia

A three-day all Liberian athletes reunion will take place in Philadelphia, USA, June 13-15 and participants are expected from throughout the United States, Europe and Africa.

The participants will include officials from the Ministry of Youths & Sports, the Liberia Football Association, current and former footballers, basketball players, Karate and Track & Field athletes, entertainers, sport promoters, sport journalists, and enthusiasts. According to a press release, the conference will conclude with a strategic concept document that will provide some direction for the improvement of sports in Liberia.

Other events during the conference: Friday, June 13th is the welcoming ceremony; Saturday morning (June 14) is the General Assembly; Saturday (June 14) sporting activities. East vs. West team, East A vs. West A (younger/active athletes) and East B vs. West B (comprising the older/veteran players); Saturday (June 14) evening is the award banquet; Sunday (June 15) is the cultural festival and farewell cocktail.

According to the organizers, 291 individuals have so far consented to attend and more are expected and interested participants should email [email protected] before May 24, 2014.

It said the re-union will be held every year at a particular location and the next venue will be decided at the end of the conference.
