The Liberia Athletics Federation has released the calendar of activities for this year’s World Athletics Day celebration, which will take place on Friday, May 23, 2014 in Upper Caldwell, Montserrado County with the theme “Athletics for a Better World”.
According to a release from the LAF Secretariat, six schools will take part in the day-long events. The schools are Samuka Town Public School, Upper Caldwell Community School, Elizabeth Tubman Memorial Institute, Bright Foundation School, St. James Elementary School and Reggie Thomas Academy
The release said each school will be represented by sixteen athletes, with eight boys and eight girls in separate age range. Group one will consist of athletes in the Kid Athletics category from age 7 – 12; four boys and four girls and Group two Youth category, age 13 – 15, four boys and four girls.
A total of 96 youths and kid athletes with a composition of 48 in each group are expected to feature in the 2014 World Athletics Day celebration.
The LAF release further said that there will be six stations in the in the Kids Athletics Exhibition in the following events; Formula 1, Sprint and Hurdle, Overhead Back Throw, Kids Javelin, Skipping Rope, and Long Pole Jump. The Youth Competition will feature events such as 50m. 50m Hurdles, 1000m, High Jump, Long Jump, Shot Put, Javelin, and Relay 4 x 50 m.
This year’s celebration will bring together hundreds of residents of the Township of Caldwell.
This year marks the 19th Edition of the WAD Celebration of which over 123 IAAF member Federations will be celebrating.
