LBS/MICAT, Ministry of State in Grand Finals

Defending football champions, LBS/MICAT Falcons have progressed to the grand finals of the 2016 Intra-Governmental tournament, with a convincing 4-0 defeat over Ministry of Justice yesterday at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium in Monrovia.

LBS/MICAT got the opener in the 3rd minute, courtesy of Abel Netta.

The Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism (MICAT), Lenn Eugene Nagbe increased the tally in the 58th through a thundered shot.

MICAT Comptroller, popularly known as striker Hilary, scored a brace in the 59th and 68th minutes to send the Justice team out of the tournament.

In the football’s last derby, the Ministry of State narrowly and miserably dragged the host – Ministry of Youth and Sports – with former Liberia’s celebrated stars, James Salinsa Debbah, Kelvin Sebwe, Joe Nagbe and George Gebro playing.

The Youth and Sports Ministry bowed 1-0 owing to an 11th minute strike from Cyrenius Forkay.

However, a report said the Ministry (the host and organizer) filed a protest against the Ministry of State for fielding an illegal player.

Earlier in the kickball edition, defending kickball champions, Judiciary convincingly whipped LIBTELCO 22 – 6 points, while the Legislature bowed to NASSCORP 9 – 4 points.

Report also said the Legislature filed a protest against NASSCORP for allegedly fielding illegal players.

According to the fixture, the 3rd place battles, including the grand finals would be played beginning at 12:00 noon.

It means that defending football champions LBS/MICAT will host the Ministry of State (if she wins the protest) as well as reigning kickball champs Judiciary will play NASSCORP (if she also wins the protest).

For the third place, the Legislature will play LIBTELCO in kickball, while the Youth and Sports Ministry meets Justice Ministry.

Meanwhile, LBS/MICAT Falcons whipped the Legislature 3-0; Ministry of Justice whacked LACE 2-1 and the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the host, whacked NASSCORP 2-1. The Ministry of State took a bye to the semi-finals.

In the kickball version LIBTELCO convincingly whipped the General Auditing Commission (GAC) 12-3 points, and Judiciary pinned NPA Anchors kickball team 5-2 points, with a narrow defeat over NASSCORP 3-2 points, but lost the protest for fielding an illegal player. And the Legislature’s kickball team also took a bye to the semi-finals.
