Defending football champion, LBS/MICAT Falcons, retained their title on Friday, defeating Ministry of State, 4-2, at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium in Monrovia.
Defender Abel Nettor netted the first goal through a spot kick and Lee Weeco Nicol of the State Ministry leveled the score. Abel increased the tally – scoring a brace. He has a total of five goals.
LBS/MICAT skipper Lenn Eugene Nagbe headed home the third goal and Kennedy Mewtor sealed his side goal haul and Josiah Zeah rattled the second consolation goal for State Ministry.
Min. Nagbe has two goals to his credit with 26 assists.
Minister Nagbe, lifting the 1st Place trophy, urged his colleagues to make use of future Intra-Governmental Tourney to enable junior and senior staff members to socialize with each other.
The Ministry of State Ministry, for the first time, was crowned runners-up, while Justice Ministry, also lifted their debut third place trophy.
Justice Ministry thrashed the host – the Ministry of Youth and Sports 2-1. Winston Scott and Matthew Doelakeh made inroads for Justice Ministry and Ord Kareem Nyanneh scored the consolation goal.
Meanwhile, in kickball, Judiciary reclaimed her title, beating NASSCORP 12 – 9 points. NASSCORP narrowly led two rounds, but lost the next three rounds.
The General Auditing Commission’s female side won the third place, without kicking a ball owing to a forfeit from the Legislature.
Over 25 football teams and about 20 kickball teams participated in the 2016 Intra-Governmental Tournament which was organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
This year’s tourney was exclusively supported by the participating teams with a registration of $500, because there was no budget allocation.
Assistant Sports Minister Murvee Gray, who is also the chairman of the tournament, thanked the participated teams, including match officials, boy balls, statisticians, medics, and the Ministry’s staff, amongst others for their contribution to make the tournament a success.
