LAF Hosts Time Trial for Boxing Day in Sierra Leone

At least 70 athletes from clubs, schools, and the communities are expected to compete in a one-day time trial on Saturday, December 16 at the Samuel K. Doe Sports Complex, to select winners to represent the country in the 91st Boxing Day tournament (Dec. 26) in Freetown, Sierra Leone. The competition will start at 7:30 am.

Head Coach Samuel Cooper said the 10 athletes will be selected at the end of the time trial in at least eight events.

“The time trial is open and free to all athletes,” coach Cooper said. “And both male and female athletes are encouraged to participate.”

According to the LAF vice president for technical affairs, Frederick Krah, Liberia has been invited by the Sierra Leone Athletics Association to participate in that country’s 91st traditional Boxing Day athletics tournament scheduled from Friday – Monday, December 23-26, at the Siaka Stevens Sports Stadium in Freetown.

Krah said this will be the second time the LAF will participate in Sierra Leone’s Boxing Day meet in recent memory.

Meanwhile, Krah has announced that the LAF is soliciting a sponsorship amount of US$13,000 for transportation and per diems to cater to the 10 athletes and five officials.
