The Cobra Kingdom of Jimmy Jolocon High School has won the 2016 Inter-High School Athletics (IHSA) Championship as the ‘Overall Winner’ in the two-day meet, which brought over 120 sprinters from 13 senior highs and a primary school together in both male and female categories.
The Better Future Academy and St. Samuel’s High School got the 2nd and 3rd place trophies respectively at the UL’s Fendall Sport pitch.
The More than Me Academy won the ‘Best Organized School Award.’ It was the only elementary school, and the only school with a cheering squad of girls U-14.
They also only grabbed the first place in the 800m men run.
Madam Gbour Wilson, Vice President of the Liberia Athletic Federation (LAF) supervised the race assisted by Prof. Fayia Koijee, Acting Chairman of the UL’s Physical Education Department.
Others were Mr. Kesselly Kanneh of the Minstry of Youth and Sports and Yezion Narcisse, formerly of Africa Sports of the La Cote D’Ivoire, among others.
The meet is an annual multi-sport high school athletics held by the Liberia Athletics Federation (LAF).
According to statistics, Jimmy Jolocon came first in the following heats: 400m (women); 200m (women); 4x 100m (women); 4x400m (women); and Long Jump (women) and came second in 100m (men); 200m (men); and Shot Put (men).
Grand Bassa High School was the Overall Winner in the 2013 High School Athletic Championship held, Buchanan, Grand Bassa County.
The President of the Liberia National Olympic Committee (LNOC) formally opened the 2016 championship, and wished the organizers and participating schools well.
