Liberia’s oldest football club – the Invincible Eleven & Majestic Sports Association (IE&MSA) has declined to participate in the ongoing 2015/2016 Liberia Football Association league (LFA).
Mr. Alfred Sayon, the president of IE, said the team is unprepared to participate in the 2015/2016 LFA League, and would therefore give a “bye” owing to the belated overturn of the decision to restore the team’s participation in the League.
The IE boss further said the ‘Sunshine Yellow Boys’ would not participate because of financial reasons.
It may be recalled that the First Instant Board of the LFA disqualified five football clubs from participating in the 2015/2016 League for failing to meet the CAF Club Licensing System requirements.
Those expelled included IE, NPA, Monrovia Club Breweries, Small Town and Might Blue Angels.
In an exclusive interview with the Daily Observer, Sayon said IE has written the LFA over their nonparticipation in the league because of several causes, primarily – the overhaul of the team and the re-establishment of its fan base.
“Traditionally, we solicit funds from our US based chapter and amongst ourselves to support the team, but with such time over the reconsideration of our participation, it’s late and therefore, we cannot participate in the league,” Mr. Sayon said.
