Hippopotamus Lady, a female soccer team of Harbel College, over the weekend defeated rivals Queens FC 4-1 (after the regular game ended 1-1) on penalties to win First Lady Clar Weah female soccer tournament organized by the college.
The match took place at Harbel Stadium and was held in honor of the First Lady. It was an interesting match as the two teams fought for dominance without success.
Queen FC’s midfielder Success Gaye added her name on the score-sheet with a long distance free kick goal in the 20th minute.
However, the goal did not break down Hippopotamus Lady as they went ahead to take control of the game through star player Lucy Kikeh, who missed several clear goal scoring chances but terrorized Queen FC defense with dribbling skills.
Although Queen FC was one of the defensive sides throughout the game protecting their lead, the team still managed to create some good goal chances, which star player Success Gaye and few other players did not utilize.
But in the 65th-minute, substitute Agatha Nimenee utilized a brilliant pass from Lucy Kikeh to equalize but the lines-woman said it was scored from an offside position.
However, midfielder Nimenee continued to torment Queen FC defense until she got the equalizer in the 85th minute from a 35-yard free kick. With 1-1 the teams went into the penalty stage of the tournament.
Queen FC missed three out of their four penalties, while the Hippopotamus Lady of Harbel College scored all four.
