Members of the Seaview Golf Club last weekend decided to give outgoing member Nic Akell of APM Terminal his flowers for his committed membership to the association during his stay in Liberia.
The program, including a farewell Golf tournament was held at the Seaview Golf Course in Virginia outside Monrovia.
Speaking at the end of the one-day Golf jamboree, Club Manager Harris Jallah expressed gratitude to the APM Terminal official for his many contributions to the Golf family.
He said the honoree Nickel Arkel’s time would be remembered by the Liberian Golf family.
He used the occasion to appeal to expatriates in the country to form part of the club by supporting it financially.
He said the Liberian government through the Ministry of Youth and Sports has not been able to provide the required to enable golf to boom in the country.
Mr. Jallah then praised the president of the Liberia Golf Association Dr. C. Nelson Oniyama for single-handedly managing the affairs of the Association over the years.
For his part, Montserrado County District# 17 Representative William Dakel promised to lobby with his colleagues at the lower house to increase the allotment of the LGA from US$1500, to US$10,000 to support the local golf body.
Saturday’s tournament brought together thirty golfers with cash prizes and trophies.
The amateur Category was won by Akin, Harris Jallah, Yusif Johnson while in the professional category Aaron Anderson came first and Papa Gibson, Yusif Kromah came second and third respectively.
The fourth and fifth places went to Abraham T. Watson and Akoi Flomo and Alphonso Watson.
Nic Arkell, a South African national served the position as APM Terminals-Liberia General Manager.
