Global Bank MD Hails Team for LBA’s 2013 Trophy

The 2013 champions of the Liberia Bankers Association (LBA) Annual tournament, Global Bank, alias, the Mighty Blues, have officially presented its trophy to the Managing Director, Philips Olujob.

Presenting the trophy on behalf of the team, the captain, Brain Lai extolled his fellow teammates for the promise fulfilled to management.

Awards given at the occasion by the Mighty Blues (as they are commonly called), skipper honored Brian Lia as MVP; Daniel Wolloh as highest goal scorer, with four goals scored; Best Coach /2013 was Tetee C.  Karneh; Best goal keeper went to Wolubah Peters; and Best dressed Kickball team of the year was the final award.

Receiving the trophy at a ceremony which took place at the Bank’s Sinkor branch, MD Olujob gave thanks to the players for representing the bank and bringing home a great achievement.

In addition, he also thanked the management of the Bank for the support given to the team that led to their victory.

The trophy is the first sports achievement for Global Bank since the establishment of the Liberia Bankers Association week annual tournament in five years.

With a record breaking season, Global Bank lifted the most prestigious tournament of the Liberia Bankers Association, after defeating First International Bank in the grand finals of the LBA sportingfestival,

Global Bank won all their local matches in the 2013 football season, while FIB fought back in their second consecutive lost.

The Mighty Blues defeated First International Bank (FIB) 2-1 in the finals of the tournament and also 2-0 in a friendly encounter after a protest was rule against International Bank for feeling illegal players.

The finals played at the Barnersville Sports Pitch to win the giant size trophy.

The win marked the fifth appearances of the Global Bankin the LBA’s annual sporting tournament.

At first Global Bank lost to GT Bank in 2009 in the finals, while they also lost to ECO Bank in the 2012 quarter finals.

In the kickball category, the Mighty Blues girls lost to Access Bank in the quarter finals of the 2013 LBA’s tournament.
