The Falcons of the Liberia Broadcasting System (LBS) narrowly pinned the United Bank of Africa (UBA) 1-0 in the opener of the Tsingtao Beer Soccer Tournament over the weekend at the Alpha Oldtimers Field, in Zubah Town, Paynesville.

Falcons’ potent attacker Edwin Sunnyboy Weah, sealed his side’s victory in the 42nd minute but in the 69th minute, Striker Patrick Honnah failed to increase the tally before an empty goal.

In the second match, Hott FM thrashed Lone Star Cell Communication 3-1.

Hit man Bradiant Nyanti netted a brace in the 10th and 68th minutes and Samuel Smith got the third goal in the 34th minute. Lone Star’s consolation goal was scored by Emmanuel Nelson in the 45th minute.

Lone Star Cell has protested over the unavailability of Hott FM’s players’ cards prior to the match and ruling is expected to be handed down before the finals on Saturday, April 25.

In the third game, Heneiken Beer convincingly whipped FABBRIC FM 5-1.

Frontrunners Jason Weni and Philip Sumo were on target and Akoi Morris got a hat-trick. FABBRIC Program Manager Molley Trojan Kiazulu netted the consolation goal.

In the last derby, host Tsingtao banged Novafone GSM 4-1 in a penalty shotout.

Mr. Nyanneh Wilson, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and President of the Nyanneh’s Company, said the 2-day tourney is aimed at “kicking the Ebola virus out of the country totally.”

Mr. Wilson said “We want to encourage Liberians to abide by the preventive measures against the Ebola virus to totally kick it out of our country.”

Meanwhile, on Saturday, April 25, LBS was expected to host Hott FM (if they won the protest against Lone Star Cell) and Heneiken Beer is expected to engage Tsingtao Beer at the Alpha Oldtimers Field beginning at 12:00noon.
