–Defeats LPRC Oilers 1-0
Monrovia Club Breweries yesterday moved to second place on the league table following their 1-0 defeat of bottom side LPRC Oilers at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium.
Despite going down to ten men in the 60th minute after player Benjamin Sackoh was red carded; Coach Francis Sarploh’s boys secured the victory after substitute Nicholas Andrews headed home a cross from the right flank in the 69th minute.
Coach Sarploh made the substitution at the start of the second half after his boys failed to make attempts on their opponents’ goal in the first half.
Oilers goalkeeper Mohamed Kamara saw himself on a holiday between his goalposts in the first half after attacking opponents failed to test his goalkeeping ability.
Oilers had the best moments in the first half but did not utilize their opportunities to give them their second win after they bounced back with a comprehensive 2-0 win against Liberia’s darling club Invincible Eleven on Saturday at the ATS.
Forward John Labbie who got the second goal against IE in their weekend victory, could have gotten the curtain raiser in the 13th minute after his right foot strike was blocked by goalkeeper Abdulai Koulibaly of Club Beer.
Later in the 33rd minute, it was right-back Sam Jadoe that came close to score with his right foot strike in the lower corner of Breweries’ goalpost after Varney Dukuly sent in a low cross from the right flank.
Another chance for Oilers in the second half to get the equalizer from a free kick was buried after Patrick Jackson’s free kick hit the goalpost.
Both sides were reduced to ten men after right-back Jadoe was red carded in the 87th minute for elbowing goal scorer Andrews.
The victory for MC Breweries takes them to second place with 24 points out of 13 matches- seven points behind league leaders FC Fassel.
LPRC on the other hand remained in the eleventh position with eight points after they lost nine, drew two and won two out of 13 matches.
