After finishing 9th during Phase One of the Liberia Football Association’s 1st division league, Mighty Barrolle players are now targeting the top four positions of the 2017 league and the Knockout Cup.
In an interview with this newspaper the General Secretary of the club, Ivan Brown, said the “Kayan Pepper Boys” are in a better position to face their opponents in Phase Two of the league season.
“It is clear that we cannot win the championship, but in order to keep the team in the picture, we are going to end up in the top four positions at the end of the season and our next target is the knockout,” Mr. Brown said.
Mr. Brown said the Kayan Pepper Boys got on their wining form but due to injuries the team slipped to the 9th position.
“After we won our previous matches before our final two Phase One matches, six of our key players sustained injuries which led to the technical staff using substitute players for those matches,” he said.
Barrolle, after losing six consecutive matches woke up to defeat champions BYC at the Blue Field and later secured two crucial victories against ELWA United and their traditional rivals Invincible Eleven on 4-0 and 2-1 respectively that took them above the relegation zone. They, however, failed to secure a win or draw in the last two matches against Watanga FC (2-1) and league leaders FC Fassel (5-1).
But expressing confidence over the team’s preparedness for the second session of the league, Mr. Brown said they are doing all they can to meet up with their target for the rest of the season.
“We are in touch with some of our 1st division counterparts that are willing to send players on loan to the club and we have also been able to move into some communities to recruit players from 2nd and 3rd division clubs,” he said.
In the knockout competition, the Rollers are paired against 2nd division side Samira FC out of 30 clubs following a random draw.
The Rollers’ Secretary General also appreciated his players for their sacrifices and commitment towards the club and further called on their supporters in and out of the country to rally support for the club.
