Following three consecutive defeats in the Cellcom National League, the rollers of Mighty Barrolle on Friday, December 23, 2016 got their first win with a shocking result against Champions Barrack Young Controllers (BYC) at the Blue field in Monrovia.
The Kayan Pepper boys, having lost their first three matches in the new season, went into the encounter against the champions with soccer fans confident of BYC winning the match.
BYC kicked off the new season on a winning streak – just as league leaders FC Fassel – by collecting nine points out of its first three matches against LPRC Oilers, Jubilee FC and ELWA United.
But their 3-2 defeat to the rollers, who came from behind to beat them, was a shock to many BYC supporters at the Blue field.
The Go Blues Boys of BYC got the opening goal of the match through player Prince Jetoh in the 26th minute; which was leveled after Lorenzo Wilkins got the equalizer in the 33rd.
The champions bounced back to take the lead in stoppage time before the half time break.
Coach Terrance Dixion’s boys returned from the break with lots of energy and pressurized their opponents, which led to the team securing its first win of the competition with two goals in the second session.
The goals were scored by striker Julius Woto and Moses Cooper in the 51th and 62nd minutes respectively.
Meanwhile winning goal scorer Cooper has indicated that they won because they refused to give up despite their poor results and how they were being treated and viewed as a result.
“This time around, we decided to put everything behind us and go into the match with our minds set on winning, despite the challenges we are facing,” Cooper said.
It may be recalled that Coach Dixion along with his players expressed frustrations over the manner they were being treated following their third consecutive defeat.
Player Cooper, however, called on their fans to continue supporting the club; and the team’s leadership to always be around regardless of match results, noting that it will further motivate them as players.
The win pushed Barrolle up to 9th place with three points out of four matches.
In other results, Monrovia Club Breweries moved on to 4th place following their 1-0 win over Watanga FC that currently sits in 10th place with 3points, while the Shipping boys of LISCR FC dropped to 6th place after a goalless draw against 5th place Jubilee FC at the ATS.
Meanwhile, FC Fassel maintained their winning streak by defeating the Oilers by a goal to nil, which puts them three points ahead of champions BYC; the Oilers dropped to 8th place with 4 points out of four games.
The Mountainous Boys of Nimba United, after their two successive draws, secured their first win of the season against bottom club Invisible Eleven (IE) at the North Star Stadium in the league’s Christmas fixtures.
Keitrace FC also celebrated their Christmas in grand style after a 3-2 victory over ELWA United at the ATS.
Keitrace FC now sits in the 3rd position with 8points – 2 points behind league leaders FC Fassel.
The league will continue today at the ATS with ELWA United hosting Nimba United in the day’s first encounter, while MC Breweries will welcome the Shipping Boys of LISCR FC.
