LISCR FC took a step toward the title fight on Sunday evening when she narrowly whipped Aries FC 1-0 in their debut game in the ongoing 2014/2015 1st division league of the Liberia Football Association (LFA) at Antoinette Tubman Stadium.
Skipper and lanky striker Mohammed Varney capitalized on their rational rebound from Aries’ goaltender Walloh Weah, a junior brother to Africa’s legend George M. Weah. Sunday’s defeat tallied their second loss to the Ship Boys in two weeks.
LISCR’s hit man was quick to put his legs on the ball in the 58th minute, which probably left goalkeeper Weah’s hands intentionally to bluff on the re-grabbing.
Aries’ quartet Kpini Togbah, Dominic Barlee, Boakia Paasewe and Meekie Freeman would not pick up the go close to the woodwork, but substitute Thomas Kpehe, dubbed Red came close in the 72nd minute with a wide shot in the 18 yard box.
Though his side could not at least put up a draw against LISCR FC, Coach D. Arab Fofana of Aries said the officiating of Chief Referee Lamine Kamara, especially on the goal was an embarrassment.
But Cooper Sarnor, the manager of LISCR FC laughed-off Coach Fofana’s assertion arguing that the “elementary mistake from the goalie led to their win.”
