LFA 2015/16 league champions Barrack Young Controllers (BYC-1) have begun preparations for the upcoming 2016-17 league season.
According to a release posted on the club’s Facebook page, the team will play four pre-season matches, beginning with three against county teams, including Montserrado, Grand Bassa, and Nimba, at Blue Field, on Lynch Street in Monrovia.
The LFA champions kicked of its pre-season matches yesterday when they faced 2015 county meet finalist Montserrado County, with Coach Copper Sannah leading the squad.
The “Go Blue Boys” will return to action on Saturday, November 5, when they battle against County Meet defending champions Grand Bassa County.
“Saturday’s match promises to be entertaining as Bassa will be hoping to continue their good form against BYC-1 after they defeated LISCR FC 1-0 last Sunday at the Doris Williams Sports Stadium in Buchannan,” the release said.
The final game of the BYC-1 four-day football event will also take place at Blue Field against Nimba County on Sunday, November 6.
“All games are scheduled for 3:30 p.m. kick-off time and all gate incomes will go directly to each of the county participants.”
The team’s final pre-season match will take place at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium on Saturday, November 12, at 4 p.m. when they lock horns with LISCR FC.
According to the release, newly signed winger Ketu Jerbo and attacking midfielder Abdulai Yaya Bility (from ELWA and Keitrace FC respectively), will both make their debut for BYC in the four-day football event.
BYC-1 and Monrovia Club Breweries will later have to put their strength to a test and their readiness for the pending 2017 LFA league season when they both clash in the LFA Super Cup of the Liberia Football Association on November 29.
“These pre-season matches will help in preparing us for both the CAF Champions League and the 2017 national league season,” the release quoted Coach Sannah.
At the same time, the LFA league champions announced striker Van-Dave Harmon as the team’s new captain.
“Former Monrovia Club Breweries midfielder Sylvanus Morris who joined the club last season on a free transfer will serve as second captain, while creative midfielder Benjamin Gbemy will serve as third skipper,” the release said.
Van-Dave, who was loaned to Diambars of Senegal last season, has played for BYC-1 for the past two seasons and won the Most Valuable Player (MVP) in the Coco Cola Competition, scoring a hat trick in the final against Nimba United.
“Van-Dave is a respected figure in the dressing room. He is loved by his teammates; and is a very demanding performance-driven individual…he is fit to wear the arm band for BYC-I,” the release said.
