The Invincible Eleven & Majestic Sports Association has been dropped from the Coca-Cola 8-team tournament and would face additional punishment after failing to participate in the tournament’s media launch to confirm her participation.
The Secretary General of the Liberia Football Association (LFA), B. Alphonso Armah said IE was immediately dropped yesterday having fallen short to the invite urging all clubs to participate in all the activities of the tournament “without any excuse.”
The LFA Chief Scribe said Gardnersville based outfit, LISCR FC was immediately written to fill IE’s space.
Armah stated that LISCR invitation was owing to Article 1, Section 1.15 of the LFA Revised Statutes which mandates all registered clubs to participate in all competitions by the LFA.
“The decision to drop IE is intended to standardize our league as for instance the CAF Club License and the decision we have taken will also be the same in any competition, including the national league,” Armah said.
He said though dropping IE will cause some public outcry this is the time for change and “we are ready to make the change.”
An official of LISCR FC, who begged for anonymity, told the Daily Observer yesterday that LISCR FC might not honor the invitation owing to the “belated invite” and afraid of being responsible for the dropping of IE from the tournament.
The LFA’s chief scribe has further announced that the draw of the Coca-Cola 8-team is scheduled today at the headquarters of the LFA at 2:00pm.
It may be recalled that last weekend’s media launch, the Coca-Cola 8-team tourney was announced to be scheduled from Friday, May 1 to Friday, May 8, at the Blue Field.
The value of the Coca-Cola Top 8 Tournament is US$15,000.
The participating teams are BYC I, FC Fassell, Nimba United and NPA Anchors, Watanga FC, Aries FC, LISCR FC and Barolle.
