In the world of soccer, coaches first, are apt to train their defenders to pass the ball to the goalkeeper whenever a defender is under intense pressure from opponents.
The second advice is for a defender to communicate with his goalkeeper before he kicks the ball to him.
Kaba FC, a 3rd division club in the ongoing LFA league, against Young Arsenals last Saturday, applied the first advice.
That is, he made the decision to pass the ball to the goalkeeper for safety to reduce the pressure he was under. But what he forgot, was communicating his decision to his goalkeeper, who was nowhere in the post.
It was in the 84th minute and Kaba FC had allowed Arsenal’s strikers James Tarnue and Kesselly Kamara to score two goals for their side, and they were looking for goal number three.
Defender Edward Kai held the ball as his opponents advanced towards him. Turning around he shot the ball towards his goal, and the poor ball rushed to the side where the goalie was nowhere around.
That was how Kaba FC lost 3-0 to Young Arsenals.
“Edward has a bad day,” said a soccer fan, “I hope he can recover his next game.”
