Triple Super Cup champions Barrack Young Controllers (BYC) won their ninth title on Sunday and the first pre-season tournament title since the 2011.

The team has won three LFA Super Cups, two Championships and two Knockouts and then two pre-season tournaments, excluding the dual achievement of its feeder team, BYC II.

The local football giants whipped Nimba United 3-1 yesterday at the Blue Field which ended the eye-catching 9-day Coca-Cola Big 8 tournament. This marked the second defeat of Nimba United in the tournament having also lost 1-0 in the preliminary stage.

BYC hit man Vane Dave Harmon netted a deserving hat-trick after an unexcited spell in the U-23 Lone Star dismal performance in Ghana.

BYC, dubbed ‘the Go Blue Boys’ moved to the finals after a 1-0 win over IE, converted from a spot-kick by attacking midfielder Gideon Williams.

In the preliminary rounds, the Go Blue boys topped Group A with nine points, winning all her games without conceding a goal.

Coach Robert Larteh’s boys whipped Nimba United 1-0; Mighty Barrolle 2-0 and LISCR FC 1-0.

Sunday’s defeat over Nimba United has shown that Coach Sam Chebli needs to overhaul the middle and front to withstand the shots.

Nimba United narrowly crossed over to meet BYC through a lottery toss against NPA Anchors, 4-0, after the 90 minutes ended in one-all.

Earlier, United lost 0-1 to BYC 1-0, but drew with LISCR 2-2 and pinned Mighty Barrolle 2-1.

BYC wizard Harmon was awarded the tournament’s Most Valuable Player having played two of the five games and netted three goals.

The eight participated teams were awarded certificates of participation while Nimba United received a cheque for US$1,000 as runner and BYC got US$2,000 and trophy.
