Coach Robert Larteh, (Coach Pella) led his boys to make history, defeating Mighty Barrolle 1-0 last Sunday in the preliminary round of the Coca-Cola Top 8 Teams Tournament.

BYC qualified for the semi finals in the debut pre-season tournament in front of a record crowd, including President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf.

Sunday’s game is second to be seen by President Sirleaf in less than 34 days with the first being the Super Cup derby where BYC pinned FC Fassell 2-1 since the suspension of football activities in July 2014.

Trokon Myers' fortuitous late strike sealed the score for BYC.

During the tournament opener on Friday, May 1, BYC narrowly pinned Nimba United 1-0. Both teams ended the game with 10 players.

The result left the Blue Boys six points clear and uncatchable in Group A, putting them through to semi finals. LISCR FC has two points from two games, having drawn with the Rollers and Nimba United 2-2- and 1-1 respectively.

The Rollers sit 3rd on Group A with one point and a goal difference to Nimba United, who also has Barrolle with two teams from each group expected to crossover.

Tuesday’s match would be the decider on which of the three should join BYC for the 2nd stage of the tournament. A win for any of the two, Barrolle and Nimba United would give a contented seat of four points, in so doing LISCR FC needs a win to crossover. But if Barrolle and Nimba United draw, LISCR FC could be inspired to fight for at least a draw to qualify.

For Group B, NPA Anchors top the table with three points and four goals difference, having thrashed the tournament’s favorite FC Fassell, 4-0.

Liberia’s Darling club, IE is next on Group B with three points and a goal difference, having narrowly defeated Aries 1-0.

Yesterday’s games between IE and NPA Anchors; FC Fassell and Aries were on till press time.
