Liberia Amputee Football & Sports Association ended a three-day (May 1-3) football tournament with the selection of eighteen players to form part of the Amputee Lone Star.

The team is preparing for a 4-Nation football tournament to be held in German Town, Maryland, USA August 8 & 9.

The participating teams include Ghana, Liberia, Haiti and the USA.

According to Secretary General Samuel Eastman, the selection of players for the Amputee Lone Star is done, annually, after a tournament like the one held from May 1-3 at the Fish Market sports pitch in Monrovia.

Amputee teams that took part in the tournament were LASA, Monrovia Giants, Mighty Conquerors and Survivors F.C.

Survivors won first place; Mighty Conquerors came second and LASA came third.

Eastman said 18 players were selected from the four teams, and are expected to justify their inclusion to form part of the Amputee national team.

He used the occasion to appeal to officials at the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Chief Patron President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and all sports lovers to assist the team financially in its preparation to represent Liberia in August.

“If Liberia competes in this tournament, we are sure to give a good impression of our ability to defend the image of the country abroad,” Eastman said.

Eastman explained that while in the United States, the Liberian team players will have the opportunity to explain to Liberians there about the Ebola story.
