LFA women football committee, in collaboration with Football to Development Destitute (FODEDE) will kick-off a three-day football jamboree for its inclusion in the 2014/2015 National County.
The tournament will run from Friday, July 18 to Sunday, July 20 at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium in Monrovia at 4:00pm.
Committee member Rochell Woodson, said Youth and Sports Minister Lenn Eugene Nagbe and Deputy Minister Henry Yonton would be officially recognize for their support for their encouragement of women football.
She told the Daily Observer in an interview on Tuesday that four teams will merge from the eight in the LFA League to lock horns in the probable pleasurable tourney.
She said Madam Ciata Bishop, head of women’s football at the LFA, has named two of the teams in honor the wife of Vice President Joseph Boakia, Mrs. Kartumu Y. Boakai and the Managing Director of the National Port Authority (NPA), Madam Matilda Parker.
She disclosed that retired international German female footballer, Heidi Beha, will serve as guest player. A fortnight ago, the former German international expressed interest to assist the development of female soccer in the country.
Madam Woodson said the German will feature for each of the teams in the tournament.
Woodson is the Chairman on the Standing Committee of Administration at the LFA and a member on the Finance and Women Committees.
Meanwhile, the former chairman of women football, now an executive committee member, Mr. Wallace Weiah said the tournament will be played as schedule.
He disclosed that teams have already been merged and named the mergers as Earth Angels and World Girls; Determine and Island Queen, Senior Pro and Pro Sisters, and Blanco and Na Kids.
He indicated that if all goes well, the remaining two teams are expected to be named in honor of Bong County Senior Senator Jewel Howard Taylor and Madam Mary Broh, the Director General of the General Services Agency (GSA).
“Their merger names and game fixture are expected to be finalized today and make public,” Mr. Weiah said. “The entrance for the games will also be decided today.”
