The Liberia Chess Federation, (LCF), has been officially accredited by the Ministry of Youth & Sports. A certificate of accreditation was presented to the leadership of LCF on March 26.
The accreditation grants formal recognition of the LCF by the Government of Liberia as the legal and legitimate entity to supervise the activities of chess in Liberia, consistent with the LCF constitution.
A press release signed by LCF’s president Samuel D. Tweah, Jr., Saturday said the next milestone is the accreditation of the LCF by the International Chess Federation, which depends on other achievements such as establishing a national office and chess playing center and the publication of a National Rank List, which will rank all chess players in Liberia.
Other vital projects, the release said will include the launch of school and community chess clubs, to develop a new generation of chess talents and linking chess with mathematics in schools to enhance the overall cognitive capacity of students.
The release noted that the LCF would be commencing these drives with the launching of its national headquarters project. The project will solicit support from the private sector and individuals to develop its national office and equipment, including tables, boards and chess clocks for its regular tournaments.
