Cellcom GSM is the official GSM sponsor of the November 8, Liberia National Marathon, according to an announcement made on Wednesday, October 21, during a joint press conference at its headquarters on Capitol Bypass.
Corporate Communications Strategist Dr. Kimmie Weeks said Cellcom’s decision to support the Liberia Marathon was in line with the company’s long standing commitment to support sports in Liberia.
He said by virtue of its sponsorship for the Liberia National Football Team, Cellcom is now the largest sponsor of football in Liberia and the support for the 2015 Marathon is a natural step for the company.
“We’ve seen how the support we have provided to the Liberian Football Association has provided the springboard the National Football Team needs to advance through the African Cup qualifiers and we are confident that our support for the marathon will be significant to ensure success,” he said.
Race Director Ms. Eunice Dahn thanked Cellcom for its support to make a major difference for the marathon. “We want to extend our appreciation to Cellcom for the sponsorship,” noted Dahn, because Cellcom’s support came at an extremely crucial point.
Ms. Dahn noted that this year’s event is significant because it is being held to celebrate Liberia’s victory over Ebola. “We could not host the 3rd series of the Marathon in 2014 because of the Ebola crisis, but we are thankful that Liberia is now Ebola free and this year’s event can celebrate such a major victory for the Liberian people.”
