The Bill Rogers Youth Foundation (BRYF) in partnership with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Liberia National Olympic Committee and Liberia Athletic Federation are expected to organize a two-day annual “5K Run for Change and Fun Walk 2018” in Monrovia.
The two-day event, which is expected on November 29, will take place under the theme “Building Liberian Youth Future Together,” and on November 30 an empowering dinner and awards ceremony will be held to present winners with cash prizes, medals, trophies, certificates and a message of hope to the young people.
It will also be supported by the Liberia Broadcasting System, Africa Investors Group Foundation, Youth for Change and Youth Network for Reform, All-Pro Consulting Services, ECOWAS Radio, and Roots Holdings Inc, among others.
The 5K Run for Change, according to its executive director, Mr. Bill Rogers, is meant to empower youth through the BRYF sports for change programs by increasing youth participation in athletics.
“The run and walk will commence at the JFK Hospital and end at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium. Awards and prizes include certificates, medal, and trophies will be provided to winners in three categories: youth and active runners, elderly and people with disabilities, and a special award for women and girls,” Rogers said.
Mr. Rogers indicated that the 5K Run is intended to expose athletic talents of young Liberians. “To achieve this, the project team is seeking partnerships or sponsorships from companies, youth organizations, non-profit organizations, private and public sector organizations. Registration forms are available at various locations including gas stations, media institutions, high schools, and universities,” he added.
Meanwhile, the event will be facilitated by the technical teams of the Liberia Athletic Federation and the Liberia National Olympic Committee and the Ministry of Youth and Sports along with Bill Rogers, the lead organizer of the project, who is a highly experienced international track athlete.
Moreover, the organizers will recognize stakeholders, partners, and sponsors in the public and private sectors for their support and network to discuss future events. The evening will bring together some of Liberia’s talents from the business/entrepreneur community, music, movies, sports, among others.
Bill Rogers Youth Foundation (BRYF) is a nonprofit organization on a mission to help Liberian youth and children and develop their natural athletic talents so that they can positively impact their communities.
BRYF’s goal is to develop at-risk youth into strong adult leaders so they can become role models. Bill Rogers’ (Liberia’s renowned middle-distance runner) vision is to use sports to break down the cycle of violence and build unity among Liberian youths and communities.
