Oilers Lose 4 Games in FIBA Tourney in Tunisia

Having lost four straight games in the Men’s finals of the 28th Champions Cup in the FIBA tournament going on in Sousse, Tunisia, Liberia’s representative LPRC-Oilers were yesterday scheduled to complete their final match against Egypt’s Sporting Alexandria.   The competition began on December 12 and will end on the 21.

Oilers lost their first game to Club Constantinois of Algeria 84-64 in group A. The Algerian club led 10 points at the end of the first quarter 23-13.

The Liberians seized the beginning of the second quarter by tightening their defense and recorded 11 points. In the halftime they were led only by four points 39 – 35. On the return Constantine’s players were more enterprising and led by 11 points to put the scores in the last quarter at 67-56. The last quarter was fatal for Oilers which lost 17 to 8.

Constantine's Sports club finally won by 20 points to the final score of 84 – 64 with Saadallah Mohamed leading with 28 points and Zerouali Mohame adding 19 points.

Oilers lost their second match 49-91 to Tunisia’s Etoile Sportive and succumbed 67-86 to Mozambigue’s Ferroviaro da Beira in their third straight game and were beaten also by Tali basketball club of Gabon 61-83 points. The big win for Tali basketball club came after it lost its first three group-A games will have a daunting task of making the quarter-final cut as it prepare to round off it group game against Ferroviaro Beira basketball club of Mozambique at 12H00 Tuesday.

The Gabonese won the first three quarters against Oilers but lost the fourth quarter by 24-19, 29-10, 17-08 and won 13-24 to snatch the vital win.
