The captain and guard of former basketball champions, NPA Pythons, Raphael M. Quaye, who is also the captain of Lone Star has graduated from the Institute of Chartered Accountants, earning a Certified Public Accountant degree.
The basketball icon, 38, graduated on Saturday, April 12, 2014 in Accra, Ghana.
Quaye would be admitted as a member of the CA in September-2014 after a completion of a three-day induction course.
“I’m happy to strive to be a mentor to upcoming basketball players,” he said. “I want to encourage other basketballers to pursue education while playing.”
Quaye qualified to earn a CA when he successfully passed the Uniform Chartered Accountant Examination administered by the Liberia Institute of Certified Public Accountants (LICPA).

Quaye qualified along with three others to complete part four of the institute’s professional examinations.
He works with the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL).
The Executive Director of LICPA, James Dorbor Jallah said this is the very first time that local accountants have qualified as full professionals without traveling overseas.
Quaye is an aggressive basketball guard and also a three-pointer.
He began playing basketball with Commissioner, from 1993-1995 and later joined NPA Pythons in 1996, where he is still playing as a Point Guard.
Former Python’s Coach Matthew Gbamore said his presence on the team helped the team to capture seven 1st division championships.
Chartered Accountant (CA) originated from British Royal Charter and widely spread to the Commonwealth since its inception in 19th century, while the CPA is the brand title of qualified accountants in the United States.
