The Liberia Basketball Association (LBA) has suspended its third division league, which was expected to bring together 14 teams from four counties.
The teams were expected to proceed from Bong, Margibi, Bassa and Montserrado Counties and converge in Gbarnga.
Secretary General D. Allen Goodridge said the postponement is to support measures instituted by the government through the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare due to the Ebola menace.
Goodridge told the Daily Observer yesterday via mobile phone that the decision was made over the weekend by its executive committee and would communicate it to the teams involved.
He said basketball is a contact sport and Ebola is spread through body contact from infected persons.
He urged basketball players to abide by the Ebola’s preventive measure pending its improvement in the country.
He confirmed the official closure of the LBA 2014/2015 League on either late September or early October but did not state when the 2015/2016 LBA League would kickoff.
