Eighteen male and female basketball teams are expected to battle in a three-day basketball tournament at the Ford Maden Christian Academy (FMCA) gym on Smythe Road, Old Road Community.
The tournament is expected to bring 2nd, 3rd and female basketball teams, who are registered members of the Liberia Basketball Association (LBA), from Friday, August 21 to Sunday, August 23, at 12pm.
The Desert Warrior Association organized the 3-day games is to reawake the spirit of basketball which is yet to be revived since the outbreak of the Ebola and the leadership crisis at the LBA.
The Assistant Coach of the Desert Ladies and Knights, Febian N. Kieh said there would also be an exhibition match between some first division all-star basketball players.
Mr. Kieh, who is also part of the organizing committee, said beside the tournament, there would also be a ‘3 points competition.’
“Trophies and medals would be given to the first and second winners in each category as well as for the 3 points competition,” Coach Kieh said.
The head coach of Desert Ladies and Knights, Jerry L. Bryant said 2nd and female clubs are to register with L$1,500 and 3rd division clubs would pay L$1,000 for registration and tickets are already on sale for L$50.
Funds raised would be used to support Desert Warriors Association’s educational and communities’ projects. The Desert Warriors Association was founded on September 2008, but was legitimized in December 2014.
