The 2015 National Olympic Day Run will take place tomorrow in Monrovia. The road race, being held under the theme ‘conquerors of Ebola’ will begin at 7a.m at the Nigerian Embassy in Congo Town and climaxes at the Sports Commission, on Broad Street.
According to the vice president for technical affairs of the Liberia National Olympic Committee, Malcolm Joseph, the race will feature children from ages 8-17, active athletes, track athletes, the physically challenged and the elderly.
Mr. Joseph said this year’s race will give out the most valuable prizes in the history of the Olympic Day Run in Liberia.
He said the first, second and third winners in each of the five categories will walk away with Ld30, 000, Ld20, 000 and Ld10, 000 respectively.
Mr. Joseph said registration for the race is free of charge and is ongoing at the LNOC offices, the YMCA, and at the various universities and high school campuses in Monrovia.
He lauded Bon Aqua, a product of Coca Cola Liberia, ACTIVA Insurance Company, SRIMEX Oil Gas, the Monrovia City Corporation and Putu Mining Company for their support to the race.
The Liberia National Red Cross Society will be on hand with two ambulances and First Aid team during the race, while the Liberia National Police will also provide security and traffic control during the course of the race.
Olympic Day Run is in commemoration of the founding of the parent body of Olympics in the word, the International Olympic Committee.
