The Daily Observer has gathered that scores of current and former football icons are in the country to play an honoring football match to celebrate the election of Senator George M. Weah – the first and only black world best player.
Senator Weah, since 2005 was for the first time overwhelmingly elected as Senator for Montserrado County on Tuesday, December 21, 2014.
The match is scheduled today at the under-renovation Antoinette Tubman Stadium in Monrovia at 4:00p.m.
According to reports, Africa’s football legend Senator George M. Weah will captain Weah XI, comprising of West African players, while Seydou Keita of FC Barcelona will lead the other side, known as Africa All Stars.
Though much isn’t known of the players on both sides, impeccable source said only three former Lone Star players are on the show for Weah XI – they include James Salinsa Debbah, Kelvin and Dionysius Sebwe.
Others are Vincent Enyeama (Nigeria); Andre Ayew (Ghana); Michael Essien (Ghana), Jay-Jay Okocha (Nigeria) and El Hadji Diouf (Senegal) amongst others.
Africa All Stars will field Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Gabon), Emmanuel Adeboyou (Togo) and Mohammed Aboutrika (Egypt).
Other players include Alex Song (Cameroon) and Frederic Kapoure (Mali). (Sorry this is an April’s fool story)
