About 30 referees from the Liberia Volleyball Federation (LVF) are expected to participate in a 5-day volleyball training, sponsored by the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB).

The training will run from Monday, March 3 to Friday, March7, 2014 in the SKD Complex gymnasium.

Former Czech Republic volleyball player and retired referee, Mr. Solomon Bekele, who is also a FIVB instructor and referee will serve as the facilitator.

The Acting Secretary General of LVF, Akim Massaquoi told the Daily Observer that during the training, participants will receive lecture manuals, t-shirts, among others.

He said there will be two phases, comprising classroom type as well as demonstrative instructions.

The acting LVF chief scribe pointed out that success of the training depends on their budget allocation in the 2013/2014 National Budget.

Accordingly, LVF has been allotted US$3,000 annual operation funds, which marked a huge reduction, compared to the last two years, with the federation receiving US$5,000.

Massaquoi further disclosed that the women volleyball team has been ranked 18 amongst 53 countries in the Confederation of Africa Volleyball (CAVB) ranking, while the men’s team stands at 20.

He said the improved volleyball status in both the male and female teams of Liberia are due to their successful participation in CAVB and FIVB competitions.
