Sherman Ends 2021 Malaysian Super League with 13 Goals

Sherman celebrates one of his goals scored during the league season

Kpah Sherman, for the second consecutive season, finished as Kedah Darul Aman FC’s top scorer in the league despite missing out on the league’s golden boot.

The 2021 Malaysia Super League ended on Sunday, September 12, with the defending champions Johor Darul Ta'zim retaining their title- their 8th consecutive title since 2014.  Sherman, 29, ended the league season with 13 goals from 17 matches played. The 29-year-old has so far scored 19 goals in 28 league matches for his club since joining the club in November of 2019.

The 29-year-old striker scored six goals in 11 games last season that ended after the first round of games.  It was announced that the league would be suspended indefinitely, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but things did not go on as was expected, thus leading to the scrapping of the home-and-away format after teams had played each other only once. Johor Darul Ta’zim were crowned after eleven rounds of matches.

Before moving to Kedah, Sherman won the league’s golden boot after finishing the 2019 league season as the top goalscorer with 14 goals for PKNS. Sharman’s side Kedah finished as runners-up and automatically qualified to the 2022 AFC Cup, Asia's secondary club football tournament organized by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC).

During the just ended league season, Sherman was unfortunate not to form part of his team’s last four league games due to the international break after he was invited to represent the Lone Star of Liberia in the 2022 FIFA World Cup African qualifiers.

Sherman featured for the Lone Star in their first two Group C matches against Nigeria and the Central African Republic (CAR) on September 3 and 6 respectively. He scored the lone goal, his second competitive international goal for the Lone Star since recording his first on October 15, 2019, against CHAD in the 2021 AFCON qualifiers at the SKD Sports Stadium.

The lone goal helped Liberia secure their only win as they moved second in Group C, three points behind Nigeria.
