Dear Mr. Best;

We write in reaction to your Monday, May 30, 2016 publication back story wherein you alleged that the International law Group is shielding its client, Srimex Oil & Gas, from its tax obligations to the Government of the Republic of Liberia. It’s unfortunate that a Newspaper such as yours will distort the facts.

We would like to draw your attention to two basic facts which would have been easily achieved by your reporter Abednego Davis, if his true intent was to practice balanced journalism and report the truth for your readers. In January, 2016, the ILG was made additional counsel, which our client, Srimex notified the court by letter in keeping with law and practice. Our request made to the court for a certified copy of the file was done to enable us, the additional counsel to study the file, a process which is very unique to any court proceedings under these circumstances. It’s important to note that this matter has been before the Tax Court since 2012.

Further, our former Senior Managing Partner, Cllr. Jonathan Fonati Koffa was only recently in May 2016, appointed by the President of the Republic of Liberia as Minister of State without Portfolio and was subsequently approved to head the Presidential taskforce. To draw a connotation of one shielding another based on this fact is a far stretch on the imagination of your average reader.

We do represent the legal interest of Srimex Oil & Gas. Upon a notice of assignment from the Tax Court on this matter, we will appear before the court as required by law. It’s unfortunate that our legal representation has been misinterpreted to be, us shielding our client from its tax obligations to the country. We are available to provide clarity on the issues raised to assist you.

Kind regards,

Very truly yours,
INTERNATIONAL LAW GROUP
